The cook behind every Comfort Chefs meal
For Chef Gianni D’Offizi, food has always run on two principles: love and family. It’s the same standard he set as a boy in his father’s kitchen, and it’s the one that goes into every meal that leaves ours.
It started at fourteen

Gianni was 14 when his late father taught him to make homemade lasagne and cannelloni. He took to it immediately — earning his first pocket money from cooking, and proudly being the only boy in his year to take Home Economics, where he thrived.
That early spark turned into a craft. Gianni travelled Italy extensively, living with family and learning to cook the way they did — in real home kitchens, from recipes passed down rather than written down. No culinary school; just the most honest teacher there is. A handful of those beloved family recipes now go straight from his kitchen into yours.
How Comfort Chefs began
Comfort Chefs was born in the 2020 pandemic. Gianni started cooking from home to put food on the table — and quickly discovered he wasn’t the only one craving a proper home-cooked meal. “Comfort is what the world was seeking,” he says, “so one plus one most certainly equalled two.”
Within months the demand outgrew the home kitchen, and Comfort Chefs moved into dedicated premises. His early catchphrase still sums it up best:
“It’s like having a restaurant in your deep freezer.”
Today Comfort Chefs is a Bloemfontein household name, with many families ordering weekly, monthly and quarterly — and meals couriered nationwide.
The kitchen and the boardroom
What sets Comfort Chefs apart is the combination behind it. Gianni spent 20 years in franchising at head office level, in national and regional roles — the side of food that’s about systems, consistency and doing things properly at scale. He holds an NQF6 in Hospitality, which includes formal food safety and handling training.
So Comfort Chefs is built on two foundations at once: the self-taught family cooking that gives the food its soul, and the franchise-level business discipline that lets it be produced safely, consistently and at scale. Most kitchens have one or the other. This one runs on both.
What we make
Real, home-cooked food, frozen at its best:
- Home-style freezer meals — cooked properly, in generous portions, ready when you are
- Platters & catering — for the occasions worth gathering for
- Cakes — baked in-house
- Tot-packs & adult packs — including a diabetic-friendly range, because a good meal should suit everyone at the table
Why families trust us
The cold chain stays unbroken. Every Comfort Chefs delivery is carried by The Frozen Food Courier in areas that they operate in on a fully R638-compliant cold chain — the South African regulation governing safe handling of frozen and perishable food. From our freezer to your door, the temperature never lapses. That’s not a luxury; it’s the difference between a meal that’s safe and one that only looks it.
Made by someone who eats it too. Gianni cooks for his own family every week. The standard he holds for them is the standard you get — backed by formal food-safety and handling training, so safe practice is the habit, not the afterthought.
